Ian G. Barr is an experienced litigator and former prosecutor with a strong background representing state and local government entities in a wide range of civil, criminal, and administrative matters. He brings substantial courtroom experience handling cases from their initial stages through trial and appeal, with a practice shaped by years of public-sector advocacy and hands-on litigation.
Ian began his legal career as an Assistant State’s Attorney with the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted misdemeanor and traffic matters, conducted bench trials, and handled restitution, suspension, and sentencing hearings. He later served as an Assistant Attorney General with the Office of the Illinois Attorney General, representing the State of Illinois in federal litigation. Most recently, as an Assistant Corporation Counsel for the City of Chicago, Ian prosecuted municipal, misdemeanor, traffic, and building violation matters and represented the City in administrative appeals before the Circuit Court of Cook County.
Known for his courtroom-focused approach to advocacy, Ian is comfortable managing matters from initial case assessment through dispositive motions, hearings, trial, and appeal. He earned his Juris Doctor from Chicago-Kent College of Law, where he received certificates in Business Law, Coding for Lawyers, and Praxis Practical Law. Outside of his practice, Ian serves in a leadership role with Prevention First, a nonprofit organization, and is active in several professional bar associations.
